Peyragudes, an idyllic destination in the French Pyrenees
In the heart of the Central Pyrenees awaits the ski resort of Peyragudes, which came into being in 1988 with the merger of the old Peyresourde and les Agudes. It is only 20 kilometres from Spain, making it a very close option for those arriving from Aragon and Catalonia.
The facilities are modern and it is an ideal destination to enjoy with the family; there are no trees and the slopes are quite wide, so they are also perfect for beginners. They are at a minimum altitude of 1,600 metres, and a maximum of 2,400 metres, so we can ski at an altitude difference of 800 metres, which is not bad at all.
Skiing in Peyragudes is very complete. There are 60 skiable kilometres with 50 slopes of all levels, very balanced: 7 green slopes, 22 blue slopes, 17 red slopes and 4 black slopes, which are connected by 17 lifts. Those who will also have a great time if they go skiing in Peyragudes are freeride lovers with a good level, as there are many slopes, canals and descents of considerable difficulty to feel the adrenaline rush.
The sectors of Peyragudes are those that coincide with the old ski resorts before the merger:
- Peyresourde sector. This is where the main services of the ski resort are located, from bars and restaurants to the nursery for the kids, supermarkets, and many of the flats. It's also where you can party in the après-ski La Terrasse, which, without being one of the most famous or lively in the Pyrenees, does its job among the skiers of the Peyragudes resort.
- Les Agudes sector. This is the smallest and quietest area and where there is less sun in winter and better snow conditions in spring. A recommended piste is Vallée Blanche, which is red and is reached by the Serre Doumenge lift, it is very enjoyable for those with a certain level of skiing; it ends outside the resort, which is why some consider it off-piste (although it is safe), from where we can return to the slopes with a bus that passes every few minutes. The snowpark is at the top of the resort.
Skiing in Peyragudes is much more than skiing. In addition to the slopes, there are many activities to complete our trip to the snow. You can enjoy a ride on sledges pulled by dogs (mushing), a hiking route with snowshoes, try Speed Riding, learn how to build igloos (very interesting for adults and an adventure for the little ones), explore the domain by donkey, visit the snow factory or see first-hand how a piste-maker works with professionals.
